What is ‘entry clearance’?
Entry clearance in permission/leave to enter the UK with a visa.
Citizens of some countries require entry clearance before traveling to the UK and citizens of other countries can travel to the UK for a visit or stay of a temporary nature without entry clearance.
Do I need entry clearance before traveling to the UK?
The list of countries which have a visa requirement is always changing. You should check the Immigration and Nationality Directorate website of the Home Office at Appendix One of the Immigration Rules and also the countries.
How much does it cost for entry clearance?
The fees vary from time to time and on 1 July 2002, the fees were as follows:

What happens after entry clearance has been granted?
A person granted entry clearance must enter the UK normally within 6 months otherwise a fresh application will have to be made.
Even if you have entry clearance, the Immigration Officer may refuse to endorse the entry clearance and refuse to grant leave to enter under certain conditions.
How do I apply?
